FCS National Championship - Top 12 Roster Facts

The Football Championship Subdivision (“FCS”) National Championship game will take place in Frisco, Texas on Saturday, and this year’s matchup features two teams with very different title game experience.

North Dakota State (“NDSU”) will attempt to continue its football dynasty with a record fifth consecutive National Title, while Jacksonville State will be making its first ever appearance in the Championship game.

Below we provide our Top 12 roster facts (in no particular order) of where the players in the 2015 FCS National Championship game are from.

Top 12 Roster Facts

1. Over half of the Jacksonville State roster (63 players) is from its home state of Alabama, while less than 20 percent (18 players) of the NDSU roster is from the state of North Dakota.

2. The majority of players on the Bison roster are from the neighboring state of Minnesota (34 players), and there as many players from Wisconsin (18) as there are from North Dakota.

3. There are no players on the Bison roster from the state of Alabama, and there are no players on the Gamecocks roster from the state of North Dakota (or Minnesota).








4. California and Florida are the only two states that both teams have at least one player from; additionally, both teams have one starter from Florida (Jacksonville State – Wide Receiver Ruben Gonzalez; NDSU – Safety Tre Dempsey).

5. There are only 3 players on the Gamecocks roster who are not from a southeastern based state (2 from California and 1 from the state of Washington).

6. There is only one player from either team who is from the state of Texas; Bison Cornerback Quinten McCoy is from Dallas (approximately 30 miles from Frisco).

7. All but three current starters for Jacksonville State are from either Alabama or Georgia; the Gamecocks have 14 starters from its home state and 5 starters from neighboring Georgia.

8. The Bison have current starters from 10 different states, including 3 states with more starters than the number of starters from North Dakota (Minnesota – 7, Wisconsin – 4, and Nebraska – 3).








9. Gamecocks' star Running Back Troymaine Pope is from Anniston, Alabama, which is only 12 miles from the Jacksonville State campus; the Senior has almost 1,800 yards rushing and 20 total touchdowns on the season.

10. NDSU’s star Running Back King Frazier is one of 8 players for the Bison from the state of Missouri (only starter); the Junior, who is from Greenwood, Missouri (near Kansas City), has over 1,100 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns on the season.

11. Jacksonville State’ starting Quarterback, Eli Jenkins, is one of two starters from the Birmingham, Alabama area (Linebacker Joel McCandless is the other); Jenkins has 35 total touchdowns (passing and rushing) on the season.

12. All three Bison starters from the state of Nebraska are from Omaha, including two who played at Creighton Prep High School: Quarterback Easton Stick and leading receiver R.J. Urzendowski.
