Big 12 - 2016 Rosters by Hometown State

There are players from 37 different states in the Big 12, and approximately half of the players come from the state of Texas.  Only one team in the conference (West Virginia) doesn’t have at least 17 players from Texas on its roster.
  • Baylor is the only Big 12 team without at least one player from the state of Florida. Starting QB Seth Russell (Garland, TX) is one of 90 players from the home state on the Bears roster.

  • All four players in the Big 12 conference from the state of Wisconsin are on the Iowa State roster. The Cyclones have more states represented on its roster (22) than any other Big 12 team.

  • Kansas is the only team in the Big 12, other than West Virginia, with a player from West Virginia. The Jayhawks have 21 players from their home state, including QB Ryan Willis (Overland Park, KS).

  • Kansas State has 50 players on its roster from Kansas, including QB Joe Hubener (Cheney, KS). Excluding the Wildcats, there are only 52 other players from Kansas across all Power 5 conferences.

  • Oklahoma has 42 players on its roster from Texas, including star QB Baker Mayfield (Austin, TX). The Sooners are the only team in the Big 12 with a player from Alaska.

  • Oklahoma State is the only team in the Big 12 without a single player from California. The Cowboys don't have any players from a state west of Oklahoma.

  • TCU has the most players in the Big 12 from both Louisiana (11) and California (9). QB Kenny Hill (Southlake, TX) is one of 80 Horned Frogs from the home state of Texas.

  • Texas has more players from its home state (99) than any other team in the conference. The Longhorns have players from only nine other states outside of Texas, as well as two from outside the U.S.

  • Texas Tech is the only Texas based Big 12 team without a player form Louisiana. All of the QB's on the Red Raiders roster are from Texas, including starter Patrick Mahomes II (Whitehouse, TX).

  • West Virginia relies heavily on the neighboring states of Ohio (23 players) and Pennsylvania (14 players). Starting QB Skyler Howard is one of five Mountaineers from the state of Texas.
